Author Topic: Want some graphics card upgrade help.  (Read 961 times)

I want to go from a gtx 760 3gb to this card: http://www.microcenter.com/product/452294/GeForce_GTX_960_Overclocked_4GB_GDDR5_Video_Card
I have a 500w psu and a i7 4770s at 3.1 ghz.
I had 2 6 pin connecters connected to the 760, but the 960 says it needs a 8 pin. Now one of the 6 pins has a little 2 pin along side it the can attach to that 6 pin. This should work correctly like a 8 pin right?
If you reommend any other cards, it has to be nvidia, at the microcenter in Sharonville Ohio, and under $250.

yeah, you will be fine, your psu is powerful enough, and even if the psu has the wrong cable, you can always buy an adapter

i dont think an upgrade from a 760 to a 960 is that great

From a 760 to a 960 isn't too much of an upgrade;  if you're shooting for more bang for your buck, go for a 970 instead.

Can you explain why it has to be nvidia?

Team green? But yeah, the R9 380 is slightly better than the GTX 960, and is pretty much the same price if not lower.

I'm actually expecting a 720 in the mail soon.

Problem is a lot of games are just straight horrible on AMD builds, regardless of whether or not the specs are up to standard.

last time i argued this i was wrong, dx12 games, besides fallout 4, have no problems with AMD cards

One game doesn't suddenly make it funny to say.
I'm not saying AMD straight up performs worse in every game, I'm saying some games are grossly incompatible with AMD builds.

If you don't need a new GPU right now, wait a bit. It's rumored that the new cards will come out in May, so then prices for old ones will drop.
