not really a movie but i guess it technically has a bad ending

10 Cloverfield Lane had an absolutely terrible ending.
SPOILER:
I saw it the other day, and thought it was a fantastic movie. Really well done, and superb acting.
But the ending was just odd. Why was it there?
It was done really well, admittedly, better than many films dedicated to that specific genre do, but it felt incredibly out of place.

I can only assume it was initially conceived of as a joke. It's a call back to a throwaway comedy line earlier in the film, and you can easily imagine the writer/director laughing over the idea of it being the ending.
Only, I reckon Abrams, as producer, heard about the joke and realised he could spin it to better the marketing.
It gives him a reason to connect the film to Cloverfield, despite not sharing any other plot elements, style of filming or setting.
The name change came late before release, changed by Abrams. I'd wager the scene was shot late too, as a pick up in the editing stage. It only required one actor after all, and given a lack of CG beforehand, it wouldn't be too much strain on the department.

And it lets him lure viewers in thinking it's a sequel to Cloverfield, which has a cult following.
It's a shame, because it divides audiences and can leave a bad taste for some. It distracts from the thriller theme earlier, and disappoints those looking for Cloverfield 2.
The film could have stood on its own too. I hope there's a director's cut with an alternate ending.

On-Topic;
Bruce Campbell vs Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3), if you watch the non-US version.
US version has Bruce return to his normal life, with a bit of action.
Non-US version has Bruce stranded in a tragically comical incident.

IMO the ending was great, and while it is a complete 180 from earlier film themes, it wasn't unexpected. Besides, it was always planned to be set in the Cloverfield universe, even if the initial ending called for no aliens but rather a hint at them. Also, don't you love how pretty much everything used in the final escape and battle scene was foreshadowed earlier in the movie? One last thing, if you look at the films poster, you can see a very slight indication of the aliens above the house, but only slightly.

how was eoe's ending bad
are you implying that turning into orange juice and then choking a mean spirited german teen on a beach is a good ending

I don't think they're set in the same universe. 10CL is just a spiritual successor to Cloverfield. Otherwise there would have been definite mention of NY being destroyed. And Cloverfield wasn't confirmed as an alien, just some sort of Kaiju monster of vague origin.

I will agree though that the ending to 10CL was a great scene, and made great callbacks, as you said (although, why was her whisky in his truck? The stuff he took from her car he stored in a box and took inside. Why would he pick up the alcohol if he wasn't going to bring it in?).

I don't know if I like the ending or not as a whole. It was superb, but felt a little bit like an unsatisfactory end to such a tense thriller. At the same time, any other less exotic ending might have been so obvious that it left the film on a low note.
I would definitely go to see a direct sequel to the current ending though.

Didn't he say he only had enough time to bring only some of the stuff with him? Also, I believe there was an arg for the film that pretty much confirmed the connection to cloverfield, but I may be wrong.

Yeah, but I would of assumed he meant he left stuff at the wreckage, not brought it all the way home just to leave it in his car parked outside.

Yeah, that is pretty odd, didn't think about it like that.
