me saying dont do stupid stuff and tempt fate and donnie jumping to "I shouldn’t ride my motorcycle then" is a straw man
and yes, my oxygen comment on donnies comment is a strawman
Straw Man Fallacy: A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent. So, for example, if Person A says "You shouldn't smoke cigarettes because it gives you cancer." and person B replies "You think it's reasonable to live life in fear of cancer? Ridiculous," a straw man has been performed.
The original 'argument' was that you shouldn't tempt fate. Donnie replied "I guess I shouldn't ride a motorcycle then!" I'm not sure how that's even making a counter argument. It doesn't even address what stufflord said, nor does it address something similar to what stufflord said. It seemed like a joke. He even clarified that he wasn't arguing against stufflord when he said that indeed riding a motorcycle is extremely dangerous. Then stufflord replied to Donnie saying "I'm not gonna breathe because everyone who breathes dies." This also isn't even addressing the point Donnie made. Maybe if Donnie had meant that he legitimately isn't going to ride a motorcycle because people who ride motorcycles die it would be addressing his point and making the argument that he shouldn't be afraid of something just because it is dangerous, but he was being sarcastic so he meant the exact opposite: that he WASN'T going to avoid riding a motorcycle because people die. So since you made the same argument as him but tried to sound stupid, I'm left assuming you were straight-faced mocking him. That's a different fallacy, called
appeal to ridicule.
