I know the feel though, but what I've done was far worse.
I was scripting and, I was going to replace a file with another one. For some reason, I decided that cutting the contents of the first one and pasting them into the second one was the best idea. I mean, it would've worked but a simple file delete and rename would've worked.

So on the first file... Ctrl + A, X, S. Select all, cut, save. (why.)
So on the second file... Ctrl + A, C... forget.

This was many years ago though.
