very, very often

usually when i'm doing something that requires my attention and i don't notice it's in my mouth until it's too late

uh
I didn't know this was something people did

This used to be an annoying habit of mine.

No because I'm not 7.

no wtf

the most i do is bite my nails

This sounded really stupid at first, until I remembered that this:
I used to chew on my sleeves a lot when I was 6/7
was also true of me.

I definitely remember chewing on my school sweatshirt as a kid.

I used to do it occasionally when I was little, but not anymore. I'll sometimes stick the hood ties from hoodies in my mouth though, but I don't chew on them.

I used to until I chewed a hole through my favorite shirt
Now I chew on my gums until they bleed, and I don't realize it until a bit later

no but I chew on dirt to make the hunger pains go away

Jeez, get a load of the rich guy with dirt to chew on!

us real poor kids just rub our gums together

us real poor kids just rub our gums together
wtf how do you even do that

No.  Chewing on cloth causes this reflex where I shiver violently, feel cold, and get goosebumps.  Idk why, but it's very unpleasant.
Haha, I feel the way way about cotton, just the shiver and goosebumps part though.
