Dunno if any of you guys collect decorative knives/daggers/swords, but I want to know your opinion on Damascus Steel blades.

My best friend loves them, but I think they look like stuff.

Damascus looks fantastic. I prefer it more in accent pieces rather than the blade itself, but I think it's a gorgeous steel.

I just think it looks tacky. It's exceedingly common in the decorative knife/sword scene, where blades are usually unrealistic and tacky shapes to begin with. Then they make it out of this type of steel, and it just looks like it's trying too hard to be cool, in my opinion.

See, even that I would prefer in a more traditional solid steel look.
Maybe I just prefer the western european style more.

I think dazzle camo is only really effective at long range.
It would have to be painted on as you couldn't really smelt those patterns in.
I also don't know if painting blades is useful. At any rate you'd have to repaint it after battle/use because the paint will chip.
