Author Topic: So i wanna buy a 250-275 bike, but i dont want to upset my uncle  (Read 1661 times)

Hey guys, i know im gonna get some stupid answers like "just (do something with) Oak leaves" or some stuff like that, first off, im tired of it, second, ill ignore it, and 3rd, i want real answers, i know im 14, but i'm gonna ride it around my property first, get the permit at 15, and take it on the roads at 16. so thanks for the help

Currently i have a 1982 Yamaha XT550J,

which is heavily monday Rigged, spark plug was forced in causing it to cross thread, electrics are all torn out, kick start is frozen so it wont kick down at all, no matter how much you try, wrong tank, wrong parts, an exhaust with something screwed into it, its a mess. My uncle who passed away a few years back owned it back in the 90's and early, early 2000's, like '01 or something, after he lost his balance on it and couldn't regain balance, he gave it to my other uncle, who instantly thought stuff was wrong with it, which it wasn't, he took it to a friend who tore it apart, jury rigged everything, and let it to sit in a garage and die, fast forward years later to where i am heavily interested in bikes, dad talks to my uncle, uncle talks to friend, friend agrees, and i become the owner of a yamaha, a forgeted up yamaha, i worked on it but it never ran, so i want to try to sell it, but im afraid it might upset my uncle if i do, im thinking of buying a honda cb250-275-300

or a honda rebel.

The yamaha being a fixer upper im thinking of a price of $350-$500, is that reasonable? and what might my uncle think of me selling the bike? i really need a working bike, thanks for the help and have a good night.

old bikes are cool af but be warned gettings parts for them can be a royal pita
you should still buy it though bc of how cool it is
plus working on a old bike can teach you a lot of things

just monday rig oak leaves

can you not ask your uncle though?

perform an extreme stunt on it that will wreck it

"hey their uncle man the bike doesn't work i wanted to sell it for one that does is that alright with you"

Say you dont feel safe riding around on streets. You'll have to probably end up calling for someone to pick you up a lot too. Fixing the XT would be cool, but I love XTs so I am biased.
Also you wont be able to get much for the xt tbh.

really? werent they made for a year? damn, could i get $250 out of it? Maybe $350-$400? i currently have $149, so i got some time to get it

$350-$400?
Well youre certainly gonna get a stuffload more than that my dude. Its a motorcycle, not a used mattress you want to get rid of.
this is what a mint xt 500 w/ 13k miles might be worth, giving about $1000- $2000  leeway going down in price. I think you could get like $1000 - $2000 at least.
Im no expert though so dont expect my word to be worth much.
