proof: wi-fi
it's wi

now notice that y is pronounced wi and that's forgeted up

Because wi in wifi is short for wireless and the "i" in wire is the long "i". Wi by itself, would be "wee". See: Wi Tu Lo

greeks cannot afford letters anyway

Wi could imply both "Wye"(Wï)/"Wee"(Wí).  Which are you trying to go for?  Í or Ï?

What's your first language, Nonnel? I don't understand why you're pronouncing it other than 'jɪ

Nevermind, title was ambiguous. You mean the letter name we as English speakers gave it.
