But doesn't chasing around famous people act as escapism as well? If I'm restricted to a lower-class feminine role in my family I too would resort to tabloids to make myself feel better, to have dreams of wealth and power that I won't obtain in my life because of my family's situation
In my mind, there's a difference between tabloid celebrity gossip mags and the kind of high-class fashion, vogue-style mags. Lower-class female would still be able to escape through other magazines.
When it comes down to it, there's not any kind of concrete reason why I think tabloids ought to not exist. I don't think they should be banned or anything, but I wouldn't mind at all if they all suddenly disappeared. It's pretty much a matter of opinion.
