Author Topic: What's up with the joke clans?  (Read 3063 times)

Out of curiosity, what is even the point of clans in a game like Blockland?
In a competitive game like Counter-Strike, I totally get it. Groups of individuals who want to work together to be better than everybody else. Is there any real point in Blockland, though? Maybe groups of people who build things together, but do you really need Clan Discussion section when they can just post their work in the Gallery and talk on something like Skype or Discord?

My guess would be it served a functionality before Blockland was a popular game (or well, as popular as it is now anyway). It would've probably been a good way to get a large sum of people together at a certain time in a game where there weren't many repeat visitors.

Because clans use to serve a purpose way back then. They were competitive with each other. Collecting the better builders together and making huge projects that the entire communiry played on.

But then the friends began joining multiple clans at once and broke it all. And now many clans refuse to have contests when called out on thier skill (cough...)

The elitists need a place to congregate and jerk each other off. ^

blo is not a spam clan.
a spam clan is just made for a joke then dies off within a week after creation.

these are spam clans, they have little to no effort placed inside them and are usually just made for a quick joke.
i have been placing effort into blo so people will class it as a serious clan based on a joke.

any clan, regardless on how silly the source or idea can be considered as a serious clan if the owner puts effort into maintaining and designing it.

I beg to differ. Any of the clans that you listed could have been executed in a serious matter, and maintained will, but would still be stuff 'joke' clans. I think that the reason for a clan being, decides it to be a joke clan or not. For example, cohort is designed to be a serious building clan. blo is designed to be a joke clan with a soul purpose of making blo puns and stuff. There is an obvious difference in these two clans, but both were executed in a somewhat serious matter and both are being maintained well. But one still is considered a 'joke' clan in my book.

Further more. The furry disney clan has got to be the worst thing yet, but it still could have been maintained and organized in a serious matter.

yeah now all clans do now is throw their h8ters on their magical black list and get whiny when people they don't like post on their sacred topic

so no matter what the owner of the clan does, such as hosting forum events or blockland games, they cannot be considered as "serious" as they named their clan "buttwilly skumbubble" in a joking reason?

cohort is a dedicated building clan which is mainly ingame content, while blo is basically just on the forums. they both set out to do other things

but clans which have had effort placed into them, being maintained by their owners and doing something either in blockland or on the forums should pass that line of "stuff joke clan".

the furry disney clan is clearly a joke clan, it has zero structure and he just copy and pasted the currently online list, that we can agree on.

joke clans like Blo and even Autism TM,
I beg your pardon?

I'm sorry op but you really don't have any god damn say to decide if we're a joke or not

for some reason we somehow aren't banned mainly because our clans apply to the rules

I'm sorry if your definition of a pitch perfect clan is building or having meetings or some stuff but guess what no one gives two damns about your definition of a clan

Harvest was considered as a joke by people who just dislike me.

Harvest ia about gettin stuff done!
And hookers and blow

We even put other clans into shape by judging their builds.

If you don't build then your clan is a joke.

so no matter what the owner of the clan does, such as hosting forum events or blockland games, they cannot be considered as "serious" as they named their clan "buttwilly skumbubble" in a joking reason?
I'm saying that stuff clans cannot just be classified on if they have good / bed execution. Some clans have good execution, but it is an obvious joke clan. Somewhat seen in autism tm, and your clan.

the blo clan gave absolutely no objectives other than making blo puns. I am not sure what you are getting at. At least none onthing the forum page.

but clans which have had effort placed into them, being maintained by their owners and doing something either in blockland or on the forums should pass that line of "stuff joke clan".
My point was clans that have effort put into them, can still be 'joke' clans or 'spam' clans, if they have little to no intentions. That's why I gave the furry disney clan as a potential example. I realize that the clan did not have any effort, but it COULD HAVE had effort put into it, but it would still be a joke clan.

Referring to previous statement, I used it in scenario. It could have had a good structure / effort put fourth, but would still be considered a joke clan in my books.

my definition of a joke clan, is one that has little to no intentions / objectives. I can assume you are speaking for blo, and as far as I am concerned, the clan has done nothing but make 'blo' puns.

In conclusion: I feel like the definition of a 'joke' clan or a 'spam' clan can be very opinionated. From the outside, the Harvest, blo, autism tm, the squad tm, etc look like joke clans, but the members probably take the clan more seriously. Damp may be right in saying that I don't have a say in what a joke clan is, but then again, it's opinionated.

i will create a clan called the cool kids club and we will completely create everything of amazingness for blockland. so much content will be created it will be madness. then we will see who is the joke now

the "jokeness" and the "seriousness" of a clan are irrelevant to its value
considering that they're kind of hard to tell apart and it varies from person to person

If clans were actually active and had a policy of membership so that members could not participate in other clans, it would bring back the competitive spirit clans used to have.  Clan builds used to be important for community events but now everyone just does their own thing.  Most clans don't host open-to-the-public events like TDM's or building competitions that not only serve the purpose of giving the community a great server to play on, but to also advertise for the clan.

It would also help if our community would grow faster so there was a larger pool to select members from.
