Author Topic: Does cyberbullying even matter anymore?  (Read 935 times)

I am really sick and tired of people calling out others saying that they are a "cyberbully".  Let me just say something before i continue: Saying "kys" is not cyberbullying nor is it a death threat, saying "niceshirt" is better.

Ever since middle school i have been shown those cringy cyberbullying videos in school where the one kid gets cyber bullied and all the girls go around saying they are ugly.  Easy solution: Ignore them, problem solved.  I was bullied freshman year of highschool by some Canadian starfish who thought he was cool because his dad was rich, he even said that his mom died just so he could get out of homework.  But in the end, i ignored him and it just stopped.  Also, in highschool, there is always someone who stands up for you (at least where i am) and it just stops there.
Why can't people just press the ignore button on their social media accounts?

Lastly, i honestly think that cyberbullying has stemmed off from what it used to be, it is no longer really that bad if you just magically ignore them.

This has nothing to do with leafyishere, i simply made this topic to see what blf thinks.

If you don't look at the computer screen then how can it affect you?

cyber bullying like what Amanda Todd was given (Well it was her fault tbh) is a real case of cyber bullying

however other people that cry over how they were bullied by people they don't loving know and they can disconnect to never see these people again are idiots

Considering how obvious it is that kys is a joke it is not cyberbullying, cyberbullying is still a thing though. You could turn off your computer but you could also walk away from an actual bully but the words still reach your brain.

Well yeah I guess it does.
I mean you're talking about people whining over minor comments, in which case toughen up people, but that doesn't mean cyberbullying isn't a real thing that has a much larger affect on other people that are actually copping it.
I mean is family values even an issue? All I see are whining people sad about being called gay or cigarettes.
Funnily enough that doesn't counteract the mass killings and imprisonment of gay people all over the world.
It's not an issue that affects you personally but that's not really relevant is it.

Im just here to spread awareness

Remember to click report abuse to put an end to it

I was cyber bullied on the forums and look how it turned me into the grown ass man I am now.

It's still an issue for young teens new to the internet and new to bullying in the first place.
Young kids and teens aren't smart and they take things more seriously at their age. They're in a pretty confusing part of their life and they don't always make great choices or are fully aware of their situation and how they can deal with it.

Cyberbullying stopped for me when I was about 15/16, at high school. That's the same time regular bullying actually stopped, and the same time schools and people stopped talking about cyberbullying around me.

It's an issue for young teens, and it's caused by young teens. The people who cyberbully you are the same people who you see in school. That's why it's a big issue for schools.

depends on what it is. imo:

- "hahaha ur moms a friend" = not cyberbullying
- actual stalking & constant harassment just for the sake of harassing that person: sorta cyberbullying, yeah

lol brother how is cyberbullying even real just close your eyes dude smh

Something that the Internet really has a problem with is people going out of their way to harass people, send death threats and the ordinary mob mentality witch hunting. Leafy and Jim Sterling come to mind as habitual cyber bullies that intentionally or unintentionally direct their audiences to harass the people they talk about and take on hateful attitudes etc.

This is dangerous, because it has caused and will cause people to commit Self Delete because they were already depressed or something before.

Honestly I would prefer if anonymity was completely eliminated from the Internet and everyone used their real names. Anything we can say now we can say with our names attached. All anonymity does is increase hatred.

the witch hunting thing is so true, especially on sites like tumblr where some people tend to believe pretty much anything because they cannot fact check for stuff

If you're being cyberbullied, ignore them, get a mod that mutes them, or pull the plug.

If you don't look at the computer screen then how can it affect you?
For the most part this is true, but if someone is spreading an embarrassing picture of you, a leaked nude perhaps, then I'd say that effects you. Yeah but generally cyber bullying is easy fixable / nonexistent
