Author Topic: what new keyboard and mouse should I get  (Read 3049 times)

I have two questions
first one: is it worth it to switch to a mechanical keyboard just for the feel of it?

second one: what mechanical keyboard is reccomended? I've only ever used rubber domes and I tried one mechanical keyboard at a store and it felt nice
however said keyboard had super fancy LEDs which I don't want
I want a mechanical keyboard with no LEDs or any other functions I don't need, just one that feels better then the one I already have
it also would be nice if it had music controls, like changing track, pause/play, stuff like that
also, I don't really want one so cheap that it's bad, but I also don't want the price to be too high either

suggest some stuff and I'l reply to if it seems good or not

EDIT: also, any mouse suggestions? I think the mouse I have now should be fine but it's still only an office mouse and would be nice to have something new

I've heard WASD keyboards are good. No backlights, keycaps in any color you want, printed or blank. I haven't personally used one, so I can't really provide much in the way of personal experience, but here they are.

I currently use a blackwidow ultimate, and while it has LEDs, they don't change colors and the thing is really solid, you could probably throw it out a window and it wouldn't be hurt at all. The blackwidow ultimate 2014 can be found new for <$100 USD, so if you're willing to compromise a bit on having LEDs, it's a nice keyboard from my experience using it.

ya I've seen this before and they look good, but three problems:
$150 seems a bit much, I can still buy it but I feel I could get something cheaper
this is the US layout, and I want a UK keyboard layout, how would I make that work
and do they deliver to the UK? if so, what's the deliver price

oh, another question, which keyswitch type??
I'm thinking blue because of the clickiness, but I'm not sure

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823162029
It's got lights, but it's $70, and there's a version without the numpad. It's durable as forget and still feels like new almost a year later. It's Blue switches, so the keys are loud and clicky, but feel amazing. Up to preference, but if you decide you like blue switches, this is the best price to performance option.

EDIT: Also a 5 year warranty

looks cool, but it's got a US layout and is also from newegg and newegg's shipping is way too high to ship to uk

If you want a good, cheap mechanical keyboard you should generally buy something from either Cooler Master, Corsair or Func, but it's hard to make specific recommendations without knowing what you want. For example, what kind of switch do you want, with or without numpad, do you explicitly want a non-backlit keyboard or do you simply not care etc.

If you're right handed, I personally think that this particular mouse is amazing especially for the price.

is it really their fault that you decided to make fun of the guy for a typo lol. I'd probably end the chat too

Currently using a g502 mouse and a g810 keyboard, feels godly

I haven't tried any switches in rl but blue sounds the nicest for me
with numpad
non-backlit, I don't need it

Do not get a keyboard from Razer.
Razer products that we had, like a keyboard, had issues.
I suggest getting a Logitech keyboard. They have some real nice ones.

lol why would you feel the need to correct someones grammar when all they're trying to do is help you

Friend of mine has a WASD. Very nice keyboard. I'm not personally a fan of the switches he chose, but everything else about the keyboard is very nice. It also had a detachable cable, which means you can do nice cable management but you can still detach it and bring it with you places easily.
