Author Topic: help me: my dog is acting unusual  (Read 1436 times)

greetings forum

yesterday my dog began acting out of the ordinary. he started by vomiting on my bedroom floor last night, then began acting clingy, as though he'd never met me or my family in his life and he believed we were his brand new owners. he didn't sleep at all last night, instead ran around and yelped at my mother and kept me and her awake the whole night. this morning, he's running around, still yelping and whining, though not necessarily at me. he stuff on the floor after his walk, something he hasn't done for years.
i'm home alone today, so there isn't much i can do. though he seems to have calmed down, no longer running around and whining, but i can still tell something is wrong with him

what should i do? i could try calling up the local vet but they might tell me to book an appointment, which i can't do right now

Maybe it was suddenly hit with amnesia

take him to the vet...
I have never been to a vet that didn't allow walk-ins when it was necessary :/

Don't ask help from the forums, we will kill your dog

take him to the vet...
that's going to be kinda difficult. i'm 16 and unable to drive 2 miles to my nearest vet and i can't walk the dog there

can nobody else in your house drive either?

How old is your dog? This sounds like it got senile.

How old is your dog? This sounds like it got senile.
it's 3 years old in human years i think, though i can't remember exactly when i got him

is his poop runny or solid? are you sure he didn't eat something he shouldn't have? is he up to date with all his vaccinations?

edit: I called a vet. If he's still eating and drinking, and not throwing up anymore, it could've just been a stomach ache or minor constipation. But if the behavior continues for more than a few days go to a vet.

well, where is everyone else? if they're at work, it's been over 12 hours since you posted this, so they should be home by now. otherwise, I'm sure your parents or whoever would be willing to put off what they were doing for a couple of hours to make sure your dog was okay

also, acting clingy is not new-owner behavior. he did not forget that he'd lived with you guys for however long, and it certainly isn't evidence that he's "senile"
dogs sometimes behave that way when they're in pain, and if he was throwing up, he probably was (and may still be)

Does you dog also have a ravenous appetite? These are all signs of thyroid issues and you should take it to the vet asap.
