Author Topic: Why am I being forced to set Windows 7 compatibility on every application  (Read 950 times)

This isn't a dumb question though. Him not wanting to update since he's done it before and it forgeted up his computer is a valid reason not to. You didn't jump on him until he laughed at Raven and you just went all white-knight and attacked him for it.
Lmfao is that white knighting to you? Also you're trying to play it as if I only posted to defend raven which isn't true in the slightest. Had anyone else said that my response would of been the same.
Also "Him not wanting to update since he's done it before and it forgeted up his computer is a valid reason not to" Ofc it is but what he is asking is how to FIX it. Raven stated the only known fix for it and OP responded like a richardhole

Alright well then guess what buddy? Not much you can do since modern programs are made for the most current version of Windows. The comptablity feature is there for this exact reason. You asked a question where the answer is "Update it" then laughed when someone suggested it
I don't think you understand the problem
he is presumably using windows 8(.1), and has to use windows 7 compatibility mode for some programs
updating to an even later version would be unlikely to fix it...

installing a new OS is a pretty "last-resort" kind of option for most people, and it can bring up plenty of other problems at the same time. i had to go back to 8.1 because for some reason i could not find any way to stop my graphics driver from crashing constantly in windows 10

they weren't made for windows 10, they worked on windows 7 before
yeah, i figured the implication anyway was that they worked at some point under your current OS (which i'm guessing is windows 8/8.1) and now they just don't, which would be pretty clear indication that this isn't because your OS is outdated. it's also even more strange to say that going back a version would solve that problem at all

people post "just change OS" all the time as a lazy non-response to people having technical problems so i wouldn't blame him for not taking it seriously

windows 10 is objectively great, but it breaks my pc, causing it to crash when it logs in. so i've stuck with w7, and havent had any issues.

I understand the problem perfectly. OP is using an old form of windows and trying to use programs made for windows 10 and getting upset that his computer breaks with windows 10

i'm not sure windows 7 compatibility mode on windows 8 would make applications made for windows 10 work. these are presumably programs that worked previously and now require compatibility mode (also he's said that they worked on windows 7 before)

just to catchup everyone up:
running: windows 7 ultimate
problem: newly installed apps not set to windows 7 compatibility crash immediately

after checking the event logs, ntdll.dll appears to be the faulting module for any apps not set to it, with the exact same timestamp

is this a sign/what should I do?

And? Programs get updated when a new OS gets released. Maybe you've both been in blockland too long and forgot updates exist

Why are you being such an arrogant rooster for?

And? Programs get updated when a new OS gets released. Maybe you've both been in blockland too long and forgot updates exist

let me be clear:

programs that CLEARLY state they work on windows 7 AFTER UPDATES are behaving in such a manner

and AFTER EXAMINING THE EVENT LOGS it is a PROBLEM WITH A FILE ON MY COMPUTER

god are you this blind or are you here to insult me?

took a quick readthrough of it, unfortunately none of the tips seemed to apply to me (ex. uninstalling Microsoft OneDrive for Business -- don't have that), and it seemed like people weren't able to register/deregister ntdll so that probably went to stuff

:(
