High cost and waste of resources is not worth the entertainment.

Maybe if everyone decided to keep one Olympic stadium instead of building new ones.

The money that the olympics bring in usually outweighs the cost greatly

The poor get screwed to host the Olympic games, because they often get displaced.

Sounds like that's a problem that would need to be sorted out, but I don't see getting rid of the olympics as something necessary

if greece gets out of its debt hole maybe the games could return to where they started

We don't need to host Olympics to prove which country is better at stupid stuff. It's subjective.

I don't think the olympics are required but they're a really big deal to a lot of people. I'd go so far as to say the olympics can be objectively a good thing if it wasn't for the glaringly obvious human rights issues

The cons outweigh the pros and no one notices the behind the scenes or aftermath after each olympics either.

They had the games in '04 (which went alright), but they probably wouldn't get to host it any time soon, as the Olympic Commitee would find they had it too recently.

The point of the Olympics isn't to prove which nation is best. It's a celebration of nations coming together to celebrate sport.
It's also a celebration of individuals as much as nations.

The human rights issues, as in Beijing and Rio, are the fault of the host nations, rather than the Olympics itself.
Likewise the corruption, as in the embezzlement in Sochi, is an issue in the nation itself.

There are almost certainly some issues in the Olympic Commitee, but it's hardly as corrupt as FIFA. It could be improved, but it's not worth removing.

The Olympics bring in billions of dollars to their host nations, they entertain most of the world, and they inspire millions.
Hardly something to throw away because Rio is a mess and Tony doesn't like sports.
