Author Topic: Why does religion exist.  (Read 7846 times)

Oh you don't get the joke?
there was no joke, he said nothing about being Christian or being Egyptian.

religion does so many great things for so many people, im not religious but to say its only purpose is harm is incredibly ignorant
I'm not very religious myself, but I completely agree with this. You have to draw the line between religions that are religions and then cults that poise as religions, but even then those cults do some good for the individual, no matter how bad it may be.

Ignorance isn't great.

People are scared of the infinite darkness they will face so they use god and his fairy tale stories to feel better.
can you ever have a single loving conversation without falling back to the "VOID THAT WE ARE ALL HEADED TO" and "GOD DOESN'T EXIST" stuff? believe whatever you want to but no one's taking you seriously and never has because of this stuff

Don't bother, Rambo. Lord Tony's ego is so big that he'll end up blocking people who dare disagree with him and send his harem after said people.

You can deny it all you want. You will also face that inevitable void of endless darkness.

If more people realized that death is an endless void of pure darkness more people will try to find solutions to become immortal.

So, instead of believing in god's bullstuff fairy tales and trying to burden science because "god doesn't like it" then why don't more people try to find ways to avoid the endless void of darkness. Praying to God surely isn't going to help.

Immortal > eternal

im not talking about that. who cares about what happens after death. im talking about mission trips, charities, fundraisers, ect

Alright and what about the stuff religion has burdened science over the last 50,000 years?

If we had no religion we would be a highly advanced society right now.

These mission trips, charities and fundraisers do not compensate for the stuff religion has burdened mankind with.

while I agree with this statement, it doesn't mean you have to be blatantly pessimistic about death, or "the end" or something

you can make the best of life without god and be a happy person, help others around you and make lives best for people who don't believe in your ideology

imo that's even better because people will know that you have your own ideology, but they see that you're so happy without god - that's what will make people believe in you.

well you just proved my point
>asks tony to stop referring to "the void" as his argument
>tony then refers to "the void" as his argument

If you don't become pessimistic with death you'll become content with it and would be fine dying because it's what "god wants"

There are REAL solutions to try and overcome death and it's not through religion.

If science found a cure to death tomorrow guess who would try to stop it or make it illegal? Religious people.

Immortality through man is immoral to religious people and therefore they will do anything they can to stop it.

That's incredibly harmful.

This is why we can't do stem cell research.
