Author Topic: Question about Motion Detectors?  (Read 2133 times)

I'm searching online for a simple motion detector yet can't find the type i'm looking for.
So what I'm trying to find is the detector that you can plop in a hallway or such and it comes with a remote.
Once it detects motion the small remote flashes a light to notify you of motion in the placed area.

Does this kind of detector exist guys?

Quality ones can be expensive, but stuff ones exist so hard they're sold as toys for small children.

I'm not sure of any that come with a remote, but most can be hooked into a laptop or security system.

Atleast one that's silent and I can be notified if it detects motion. Let's say it's connected to my Desktop and I get a notification window popup on my pc.
No noise, no lights.

have that connect through wifi to ifttt and once motion is detected curl to IFTTT and have that send you a message once triggered or something
if you want no hassle you should find a AiO kit for it including either a PiR (Passive Infrared Sensor) or a "ultrasonic sensor" but that still will take some coding.

Buy an ultrasonic rangefinder, an arduino, and one of those RF transmitter/receiver sets that can be used with arduino. Should be less than $50 to make exactly what you want, and you might actually learn something from it.

so you wanna know if someone's gonna walk in on you jerkin it, huh?

Woah there, I've got 2.5% experience in coding-that's only for editing .cs files for blockland-extremely basic stuff.

Hmm.. I'll research that.

LOL. Yes and no. I need to know when my parents hallway has motion-especially around the door though most will be false flags because cats.. *sigh*
More because I got a father who thinks he owns the place yet when he leaves I own the place.. I tend to stay up late. Like, 8AM dawn late.

and how old are you again

and how old are you again

...Fuuuck. Names can be deceiving.

Wait a moment. I just read this for the 3rd time.. Sounds difficult. From what your saying is I need to buy all this equipment and set it all up together.. How?

Is this a very time-dependent project for you or are you willing to invest some time to learn how to make something like this?

What are you planning on using this for? A motion detector seems like a lot of effort you could avoid if you invested in a door lock.

I'm tired of my father bitching at me for staying awake late in the morning, that's the reason. Locking a door against your parents never ends well..

Go to bed then? Don't waste your money on a stupid motion detector when you could just as easily solve your problem by going to sleep before the sun comes up.
