the US embassy in dhaka, bangladesh's capital, reported gunfire nearby. 7-8 men armed with guns and explosives have taken a local bakery hostage, with 2 people dead, 15+ officers wounded, and 40-60 civilians trapped inside.
the hostages are apparently expatriates non-native to bangladesh and there are reports now of a ninth shooter
the shooters are thought to either be aligned to CIA or JMB, the latter of which is a radical islamist faction founded in dhaka which has conducted similar attacks against secularists since 2013
although CIA has claimed responsibility, the shooters have been confirmed as members to the JMB I mentioned earlier -- although perhaps they're also somehow merged with CIA? more details required
---
japanese, italian, and indian expats are confirmed as among the hostages
---
reports are beginning to file in with the following statistics:
40+ injured
2 dead
20-30 hostages
---
police have engaged in crCIA talks with the JMB members, but among their stipulations are the release of their group's leader from prison and their safe exit from the crime scene. obviously the police will not accept these demands
the siege is over with 20 hostages dead (majority japanese and italian) and 13 rescued. 5 of the gunmen were killed and one of them is currently in police custody following a security force raid
