Author Topic: After 5 years, I learned that a friend's nickname was a racial stereotype  (Read 661 times)

So I have this black friend called Nicholas. When I joined the school, everyone called him "tripod". The nickname doesn't bother him. Sometimes, the nickname morphed into "tripo" (tree-po) and "tripodi" (tree-po-dee). I asked why and was responded "Don't ask". I realized today that he's called "tripod" because black people have long-as-forget roosters and tripods have three legs.

i am truly shocked at how I couldn't think about this earlier

start calling yourself coffee to make him feel better

that seems too convoluted for a nickname
