If they wanted to strike fear and assert dominance, they would just use SWAT, which already exists. Or the national guard, because they have done that before.
Saying that militarized police automatically -> police state is a slippery slope philosophy and I don't believe it
using SWAT or the National Guard doesn't invalidate it from being a Police State, either way it's still the political superpower asserting their dominance using excessive force.
and militarized police doesn't automatically mean a police state, but it points towards one.
also just because you don't believe in it doesn't mean it's not true.
