Author Topic: avatar wont upload  (Read 2360 times)

i gave up on changing my avatar years ago, even uploading a 1x1 red pixel didnt work

have you tried turning it off and on again

On a serious note, EzGif Optimizer might help you with your problem - it's an online program that optimizes .gif animations for you, reducing their file size.  No promises it'll work, though - the forums handle avatars loving awfully (see muzzles' post above)

this didnt work
2 of the files were 15K file size and that still didnt work

my friend i think your avatar is cursed

its not directly an issue of filesize
its an issue of false positive malware detection that thinks your images contain viruses somehow and its broken
changing the filesize and stuff may make the malware detection now detect it but who really knows?

the new maximum size for gif avatars was 74x74 I thought

its okay i havent been able to change mine in a year lol

I have the same problem with this gif.
75x75 45.6kb

pretty sure it has to be 25kb or lower

Well. My current picture is higher than 25kb lol.

if people tell you to lower the size, whether resolution or file size, don't bother pls
it may eventually make it work, but only by coincidence, because that isn't the cause of the problem. what always has worked for me is saving it with different settings a couple of times. this gets past the issue, without compromising the quality of the image
it's easy with the GIMP. usually I just uncheck all of the options, and if that doesn't work, check them all again, and if that doesn't work, I'd start flipping them each one-by-one until it did, but one of them has always worked before I got to that point

it happens because the SMF developers tried and failed to write malware detection. it constantly gets false positives, and they won't fix it because they're Perfect and So Good at Programming and the problem is obviously your image editor and not their homemade antivirus

When my avatar wasn't uploading, I just gave up and left it instead of repeatedly trying to upload it, and then it suddenly showed up on my posts. I guess this is just a gif thing?
