Author Topic: I ship out to Navy basic training in 3 weeks. Any tips/tricks?  (Read 3218 times)

I'm shipping out on August 2nd to the training facility at Great Lakes, IL. I'm gonna be learnin' how to be a sailor and all, and I'm eventually going to be working as a nuclear machinist's mate (after 6 months of Nucler Power School and 6 months of Nuclear Prototype School).

Any guidance from those that have completed military training of some form or another? Or from those that know people that have? I'm generally rather confident in my skills and I'm not worrying all that much, but some extra tips/etc could potentially go a long way.

thanks my dudes

Just some advice I got from my brother, don't get too much attention, do what you're told and avoid trying to be too helpful too often. The minute you become useful to everyone, they won't hesitate to use you for every little job

With that said, generally networking with people is a good idea. If you get on everyone's good side, then you can pick their brains for things you may need to know later or tips on survival in the military

As much as it may pain you, try talking to Stocking. She has gone through the Navy nuclear schools and training.

don't let the nukes blow up

Probably won't be an issue; I was varisty XC and am quite comfortably in shape. But yeah, I've heard navy basic is more or less the same as army just with less rucking, so maybe a bit easier.

i heard if you brutally beat the stuff out of a guy on your first day and then no one will mess with you.

when you get to firearms training point the gun at the drill sergeant and everybody there will salute you with respect.

skip the navy part of the deal and become a pirate

Hell yeah do that.
