I failed to update my progress, forgive me.
So, the education day was...interesting. It started with us coming in, having a bit of idle chat in the forgetin' freezing entry room. We got our photos taken and sat through a bland run-down of what B2BS was all about. We then got split up into groups and did two activities; the first was a NASA challenge where we had to figure out, from a list of 12 items which was the most important for survival in space, and the second was a puzzle where we had to figure out, based on facts each individual was given that they couldn't directly show to others, when construction of a totem began. Our group did loving awesome (not to brag, but I did try to lead the forgeters to show off to the people who were standing around us with clipboards writing notes). The other group...not so much.
After lunch, I was first up for the big presentation/speech we had to give. I was made to sit for about 20 minutes (as the audience was too busy talking to each other, not even joking), and then I went up and delivered my 3 minute brag session. Amazingly, I was able to get a laugh out of the audience, but aside from that they were stoic as forget. There was no questions or chit-chat afterwards; I was sent out and the next contestant sent in.
I then did a quick one-on-one interview to clarify some facts about the type of work I'd be capable of doing; I then rejoined my group and we were given the challenge of creating a 30 second infommercial to sell a ridiculous product (a pen that could tell the mood of the person using it). Our informmerical went down a treat, the other groups...sort of. Finally, we did a ~30 minute presentation on making a good resume and how to handle interviews.
At the end, some names were called, me included. We were walked into a room, thanked for coming out, and told we had passed as the top 4% of candidates and that we'd be receiving offers shortly. My entire group had made it; some of the people from the other group were nowhere to be seen...
Since that day, I've been given three opportunities:
Op#1: This job would be working for a company that produces organisation/inventory software for the construction industry. With only a $45k salary (but additional Super), the meat of my money would have to be gained through (unlimited) commissions. Unfortunately, not long after the offer the company had to decline due to internal troubles.
Op#2: This job would be working for a company that handles Fortune-500 companies. With a $53k salary and Super (but no commisions), it had the best base-rate, and the promotions are apparently extremely fast. I've done my Aptitude test (not feeling confident, tbh), and so now I'm waiting on a green light for a final interview, or if I've been declined.
Op#3: My favourite, this job would be working for an IT company that does sales and support. With a $45k salary and Super (but no commissions), it has the worst pay-packet, but it's in my favourite industry (or as close to Games as I'll get in this line of work), has the best people and has a cool name too. My final interview is next week, and I've been given all the juicy hints on how to successfully land the job so now I need only do a bit of preparation.
This is the final stretch, boys and girls. Maybe McJobless can finally be able to afford that PS4 he needs to play the copy of Ratchet & Clank that's been staring at him on his desk for loving months.
