Author Topic: I need a solid mechanical keyboard, any suggestions?  (Read 1271 times)

Preferably with no fancy bells and whistles.
I just need a solid quality mechanical keyboard. The less it costs the better, and preferably nothing over $100 USD (before fees/taxes) if even possible.

I have my doubts that if these even exist, but I'd love to be proved wrong.

this just reminds me of that one really solid ancient keyboard that people still like to use
the one with the weird spring loaded keys, so there's a fair amount of pressure until the key starts to go down, but easy after that

really wish I could remember what it was called

IBM Model M?

I don't think that's a gaming keyboard though

It's a good keyboard though don't get me wrong, but I don't think it'll be good enough for pc gaming though. Like if it doesn't have ghosting or anti-interference, then you can't press down 2/3+ keys at the same time which can get in the way

ducky shine 4

looks like the prices go from 129$ to 170$.

you can change the color of the lit up keys and theres no extra software to install, just plug it in and it works

edit: heres a review theres a load of stuff you can customize

I watched the video, and that is a very convoluted way to change the color of the keys. that might be nice as a backup option or something but the fact that there is no such software period is definitely a downside

why would you ever need a "gaming" keyboard, i have been using a cheap stock keyboard and mouse for years and i have had no problem.
the only thing which i see in gaming keyboards is that they have led lights under the keys, but what's the point in that?

bloatware is not a positive
two definitions of bloatware:
"software whose usefulness is reduced because of the excessive disk space and memory it requires."
"unwanted software included on a new computer or mobile device by the manufacturer."
neither of which apply

software to set your keyboard's lights/macros/whatever is not bloatware any more than overclocking software is

What Cherry MX Switch do you want? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcY0FlnUe5g

For browns, blues, or greens, a Coolermaster Quickfire Rapid might be your best choice at around $60~ USD

"software whose usefulness is reduced because of the excessive disk space and memory it requires."
a program you're going to use probably once when you first get the keyboard and then maybe once a year at minimum after that is not worth any disk space to begin with.

"unwanted software included on a new computer or mobile device by the manufacturer."
i still don't see why you'd want a full program to be installed before your keyboard works properly, and then only use it once. razer forced me to install their stupid synapse program for my headphones and it's annoying as forget.

overclocking can offer a benefit that you'll notice daily. having alienware meme keyboard killer software does not.

the ducky shine 4 isn't an RGB keyboard. there's only a dozen of combinations for the red/blue lights, and the lighting options are relatively minimal as well. OP doesn't want too many "bells and whistles" with what he's getting.
