Legendary Entertainment has won the rights to a Pokemon movie and is partnering with the Pokémon Company to launch the first live-action Pokemon film franchise with a “Detective Pikachu” movie.

Legendary said details are being kept under wraps but added that the film will be fast-tracked for production to start in 2017. Detective Pikachu is a new character in the Pokemon universe.

May God have mercy on us all.

Please let Detective Pikachu be voiced by Danny Devito

A live-action Pokemon film doesn't fill me with optimism.

I'm not particularly keen on all the 3D models used in Pokemon games like X/Y, Mystery Dungeon or the 3DS Pokedex.
Something about them can seem a little uncanny compared to the 2D depictions.

And given how hit-and-miss modern CGI can be, particularly when blending CG creattures in shots with real people, I'm not particularly confident in any studios ability to get it righht.

The 3D's for these games are mode for... Games. And games for an NDS where they have to manage to store a game on a small cartridge
Not a damn movie

They will probably use models like the ones they used in the pokemon go trailer or whatever.

i'm actually looking forward to this

I'm not saying they'll use the same models. Just that I don't think anyone has perfected pokemon models, in my opinion. As such I think there's ample chance for a live-action CGI film to get it wrong.

Particularly given in the film the pokemon will be juxtaposed with real humans and environments. At least in the games/anime (2D & 3D) the environment and humans are also cartoony, so they fit together.
Unless the CG pokemon look realistic I think they will look silly/cheesy next to real humans.

ash may go down as the worst pokemon trainer of all time.

If I was a rich man I would pay money for Danny Devito to be in the film.

you could say Pokémon is a go

I believe I made that joke in the title :)

This is a terrible idea. Like, how will the Pokemon look?

Either they will be creepy-ass 3D cartoons hanging out along real people, or you'll be able to look into Pikachu's hyperrealistic bloodshot eyes.

Ma, look! A MewTwo!

(No, that's not a richard.)

ZEALOT PLEASE FIX THE PAGESTRETCH

I love hyper-realism pokemon, but making them look like actual monsters/creatures doesn't match pokemons image/themes.

But the cute cartoon look next to real humans will look silly, like a film made for the littlest of kids (like Alvin & the Chipmunks).

I do hope to be proven wrong though.
