Author Topic: [RANT]Cortana is the worst feature in windows 10.  (Read 2681 times)

Cortana is such a stuffshow. Microsoft are trying to bring attention to a piece of software that barely even works and for every one of its pros, it gets a whole lot of cons.

Lets get to the pros.

1) Music Recognition works if the music is REALLY popular. ("Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up" works)

2) I guess... It does not crash the computer and it runs. But its probably one of the reasons why windows 10 eats memory for dinner unless you have 8 GB of RAM or more.

Now to the cons. And yes that was 2 pros and one of them is because the damn thing actually works.

1) You need a really good microphone for the thing to not mess up all of the time. Yes. Microsoft is making laptops with built in microphones and yet you need an amazing microphone so that you dont have to try again 50 times. Expect the price range of the microphone that works to be around 100$ to 200$(And more if you want more quality for making things like videos). Ones that people who are not video creators or rich companys use? It wont work 60% of the time or work badly. And yes, your headset wont work.

2) The jokes are so bad that even the "Humor" (Known for having bad jokes.) program in the megaman network lines actually make better jokes.

3) Music Recognition only works on certain songs and only those on the windows store because microsoft wants everyone to use the stuffty steam ripoff they made.

4) Try asking anything without a web search.

5) The only things other than quotes jokes and web searches she says are... Halo references. And only that.

6) Microsoft wants to force it on your throat at all times.

7)Cortana is probably the most advanced spyware out there. There are some that use your webcam, but this one has all of your files and your voice alongside possibly your email. It also tracks web searches and your personality. It is Bonzi Buddy 2.0 and they did not even try to hide it.

Oh and BTW when i said to it "Why do you have so much problems" it did not work properly. This thing works about on the same level or worse as Dr. SBaitso (A program bundled with the Sound Blaster 2.0 for its text to speech and the fact that it was supposed to work like cortana and siri are today.)

In response to con 1:
My microphone is complete garbage, ask anyone who's talked to me on Skype or Discord. My speech also gets slurred a lot. Cortana's voice search works fine. Are you sure your English is fluent?

In response to con 2:
You really like Mega Man Battle Network, don't you?

dude how tf can you complain about someone with a rack like that

she almost tricked me to place my richard on heatsink forget you cortana

dude how tf can you complain about someone with a rack like that
Im talking about this one.

You know, the one that looks like HAL 9000.

i thought windows 10 was the worst feature about windows 10.

Windows 10 is the worst feature of Windows 10.

I don't know why people feel the need to upgrade to windows 10 when it's just windows 8 with very slight differences which are mostly negative.

Quote
well thats like saying "why did people upgrade to windows 7 its just like xp" xdddd

The difference with Windows 7 is that it's actually a completely different operating system because it has major changes. People upgraded to Windows 7 (or vista, but it's really just a beta for windows 7) because it had features that Windows XP didn't have and a modern aesthetic. People upgraded to 8 for the same exact reason. Windows 10? I don't get it. They added some things and removed some other things and suddenly it's a whole new system? Why not just stick with 8 which is more developed and isn't as intrusive? Is it just cool to grab the newest, shiniest operating system now because it makes you feel like you're that one kid with the Sega Genesis on your street?

We've all known that Crik is a malignant handicap with a few too little brain cells to put together a cohesive argument, so it's unsurprising that many of his complaints are so unfounded I don't even need to comment since they do so well at defeating themselves. If we wishes, I could go back and completely dismantle his entire post, but for now I'd rather save him the embarrassment.

But then I discovered this gem, and I almost felt like a freight train had bum-rushed me given how thick-headed the author must be. Excuse me if I come off as hot-headed during this, but I am so sick and tired of people spreading rumours and bullstuff which they heard from other people yet haven't actually got any of the requisite knowledge to prove it (because it's all false).

I don't know why people feel the need to upgrade to windows 10 when it's just windows 8 with very slight differences which are mostly negative.
I'm glad that you've proven to me that you are quite literally an idiot, incapable of understanding basic facts yet wants to preach like they're the most knowledgeable on the planet.

I'm not quite sure you understand left from right, let alone the basic facts I'm about to give you, but listen carefully. It's important.

Every version of Windows since Win95 has been nothing more than upgrading on top of the previous OS.

The changes in the UI have no loving resemblance to the amount of new functionality or behind-the-scenes core changes to the system that have been made. Just because you don't use all the new features and ignore them doesn't mean they don't exist.

WDDM 2.0 has been a loving life saver and has the added benefit of increasing game performance. The new Task Manager is FAR more detailed and gives more information, to the point that I don't have to rely on Process Manager anywhere near as much. The Start Menu's tile thing is actually really loving awesome, and lets me group useful applications together for quick-access. DirectX12 and UWP are going to be pretty loving swell, especially with the new Xbox games that are coming to PC. The File Explorer is just an enormously more pleasurable experience to use, especially for someone like me who has to manage hundreds to thousands of files daily. Microsoft Edge is a really handy low-cost browser to have on hand when Firefox/Chrome don't seem to be working right. There's more integration with my Microsoft account so I can get notifications directly about incoming emails and I can handle my Xbox account from my PC. OneNote is directly built in, which is loving awesome. The fact I can directly go to the Programs & Features/Admin Tools/Command Prompt just by right-clicking the Start Menu button has been a massive time saver. While I haven't personally used them yet, I do think that Cortana and the Tablet Mode are great features to have access to.

Windows XP is a security nightmare and is running off some ANCIENT kernel code. Windows Vista and 7 attempted to clean the mess, but they're practically bronze-age given the fundamental upgrades introduced in Windows 8 and 10. With each new iteration, Microsoft is removing clutter and adding productivity features. You might like doing things the slow and painful way, but I personally want to optimise and make my day-to-day PC operations as quick as loving possible so I can get to doing what I really want to do.

You are an intellectual stain with no evidence to support your assertions that Windows 8 or early are in any way "superior" simply because they weren't marketed via some shady tactics you didn't like.

As anecdotal faffing about, in the systems I've helped upgraded I've seen better performance on Windows 10 due to bunch of simplified and removed services. On some machines people are experiencing issues, but it's often coming down to people using outdated hardware and expecting Microsoft to clean up their garbage. No, Windows 10 will not run smooth on your 2003 mid-tier business Dell that your parents handed you down.
