There are two physically different types of characteristics in most if not all types of animals(excluding things that produce aloveually), which we can mainly seperate into male and female categories. This isn't to distinguish the way people act from others, it's to distinguish how things reproduce. Physically, it's not possible for males to mate with males, or for females to mate with females. Gender is not just a social construct, we still distinguish non-human organisms as 'female' or 'male'. In addition, females and males have different hormones, so genetically, females and males tend to act differently than each other.

i don't see the importance of gender, it seems to imply we act a certain way

gender is the categorization of how you fit into your society's gender roles
appearance and personality are the main definers of gender

i believe that gender is not a spectrum and can only be male or female but there is some wiggle room like masculine female and feminine male
stuff like agender, polygender, fuchsgender, sockgender are all made up terms by people who want attention
the people who 'identify' as these genders are just playing pretend and usually fit into one of the two gender roles

love usually meets up with gender but in the case of some people it doesn't i.e transgender people

people are definitely able to choose whether they'd like to identify as male or female. i don't think the word gender has always referred to that social construct, but the construct exists and there has to be a word to describe it so we might as well boot off love's synonym to give it a proper meaning.

in my humble opinion, the word gender is too conflicted with abstract emotions that nobody understands and potentially don't exist for it to have a real scientific meaning. ive stuck to using the word "love" recently to avoid dealing with people who are easily offended by the topic.
