today we did piecewise functions, the homework is this:

the question i have:

Are the F(x) numbers the X values that we put through the equation to get the Y values? I wanna say no because of F(3) in the first problem. 3 is larger than -2, and x < -2 states we can only use values less than -2. So what are the F(x)'s for then?

f(3) should mean that x is equal to three, that's how i learned it

I'll be that one guy that has no clue what any of it means and will just give a random guess.

No.

nice 👌

In order to figure out if it's a function, it just has to pass the vertical line test. In other words, if there are 2 points of intersection along the graph and the vertical line, then it's not a function. These both pass and are therefore functions.

Then to get the values you just plug x into the function and evaluate depending on which part of the piecewise function it fits into.
