Author Topic: Just started dating my best friend, how to make it less awkward?  (Read 5604 times)

you can end a relationship on mutual terms yknow. it doesnt always have to end horribly
this is actually a myth that most romance movies love to play on. when you date, there's usually a grace period of 3-4 weeks when you can easily say 'hey i think we should stay friends' but after that point theres a high chance that the partner will catch feelings. However, there is the chance that both parties might come to a mutual agreement, but it really requires both of them to be really mature and have some experience with dating

im currently dating a friend chick who is already married.
its always awkward. i force some hangouts that are completely un forget-related. so the illusion that we are friends is still there.

its a real gamble to meet one person and say 'damn im going to marry this person and live with them forever.' planning to live with a partner forever after the first week of dating is so loving foolish you have to be a tween to conceive of it
Buuuuut... they're best friends already. I wouldn't suggest doing that with a stranger lol.

lol relationship advice

That's kinda because people who've emotionally invested in a relationship don't like being dropped like dead weight with no communication, not because the "lets be friends" trope is a Hollywood myth

but yeah

i dont really feel like it takes a wizard at dating to be able to come to a mutual agreement. from my experience with relationships ive ended mutually, maturity definitely plays into it, but communicating and understanding each others intentions to the fullest is what makes it i feel like

OT: Just take it slow. You'll get more comfortable as time goes on if you're as compatible as you say you are. Communication is key - don't do things that could make the other person uncomfortable without checking with them first. That's how problems start.

when me and my girlfriend broke up, we were still friends, and still are. you don't have to leave every bridge you cross burnt.

I've had a very pronounced crush on my best friend for months now. We flirt constantly and are pretty much the backbone of each other's emotional support and people around us are constantly telling both of us that we should start dating (happened to me yesterday, got rather awkward). The only twist is that she already has a boyfriend who she's been with for a little over a year but they've broken up and gotten back together multiple times. Their relationship seems very unstable and the guy seems like a total douche and whines about everything, so I just stay really close to her and we have fun.

She asked me today if I wanted to share an apartment with her next month. A worthy consideration but I have to move out of state for school so it'd be incompatible. I'm welcome to stay at her place whenever I'm in the St. Louis area though, which should be rather frequently since I'm just one state over and have ties here.

why would you do that

because i dont want a girlfriend.
