def not pirates, too disorganized, no armor. ninjas aren't very effective once the stealth wears off. vikings work as a berserker rush sorta thing, but good armor can beat that off.

so it comes down to samurai and knight. i would guess european knights are superior since they have horses and more refined metal armor.

pirates: filthy drunk rapists with scurvy
vikings: very powerful warriors but also rapists and pillagers with no honor
samurai: honorable and skilled, but garbage equipment
knights: honorable, skilled, top-notch technology, training, and equipment. only the finest metals.
