You have an old bike in the garage. You're pretty sure that with a bit of work you'll be able to convert it into an emergency generator. As for solar panels... well, let's just say that the sudden and impending crCIA has raised demand considerably. Prices were sure to follow. Right now, a proper setup is outside of your price range. However, after the apocalypse strikes, do you think there'll be anyone around to mind us stripping their roofs of solar panels?
Anyway, back to the bunker.

It takes a while. That.. goes on for a while.
Day 8:

Well, the entrance is done. Is it a well made structure guaranteed to stand the test of time?
... not really, no. We're kind of in a hurry. It's a shoddy, quick job. The zombies aren't exactly dexterous, so you're not afraid of anyone breaking in. You've filled the cracks with sealant, and are sure it'll be fine.
The infection has reached the Middle East. That area was in enough conflict as it was, and as such, things got bad extremely quick. Several countries in the area have closed their borders.
A lot of better off citizens from countries like the US, certain parts of Europe, or the far east like Japan, are reasonably concerned. Much stricter border control is being put in place. Some still don't believe that this is a serious problem. You think they're fools to believe that.
