As far as I can determine, this does not affect Desktop/Laptop machines running Windows 10 in any way, shape or form. Microsoft does stupid stuff all the time, but at least the OS is solid.

It doesn't affect the OS itself, no, it affects the bootloader. "Secure Boot" is basically Microsoft's specially-made bootloader that's supposed to protect against rootkits and other related malware. With this key out now, Secure Boot has been completely defeated in the sense that it's no longer "Secure" against rootkits and other related malware. It's just "Boot" now.

This isn't to criticize Windows 10. Microsoft made a pretty big slip up and this story speaks volumes towards the much bigger issue akin to the FBI iPhone debacle about a universal key for a private system.
