12 bombs have hit 3 cities in thailand today, targeting the tourist industry of thailand. the move is expected to put pressure on the thai government so that southern independence may be considered (the south has been fighting for independence for about a decade or more now).

the bombings were not Self Delete bombings, they were packages left in tourist-rich areas.

They might not have been going for casualties. If the articles are to be believed, this was an attack on Thailand's tourism industry, not the Thailandish (this word looks wrong but apparently it's correct?) people.
