I think consoles and handheld gaming devices may be better fit for you than laptops/desktops

steam was just a dork. reinstalled it.

I'm back on BL again.

I thought a clean install didn't fix it before?

moved all my old addons back in.

update: still happens (the black screen)

Maybe there's something wrong with your OpenGL. It is by default chosen as the graphics renderer, and other than that, a bad graphics card or an outdated driver I see no other culprits.

There is nothing wrong with my graphics card. Sometimes, it actually loads, allowing me to play on BL, no black screen.
