Author Topic: computer starting up itself right after being shut down  (Read 2103 times)

same thing happened to me and what was causing it was some intel program but i forgot what it was called. i recently wiped my hdd and i didnt install any of the extra processor programs so i forgot what it was called. put your drivers disk that came with your processor and see what programs are on it (assuming u built your pc yourself)

i don't think those makes any problem

im just saying that a while back when i had the same problem, there was an intel program causing the computer to start up random times when the  pc was off. try looking through the options of various intel programs. it was labelled as something like "wake up the computer at X time for maintenance" or something like that

The only way I can shut it off properly is by force shutting it down with the power button

I guess if you can't find any way to disable that setting, you can just flip the switch on your power supply when you turn the pc off. Can you check for me what Intel services start up when you turn on your pc or check your msconfig?

i also have another weird problem
sometimes my computer freezes for a couple of seconds with the hdd activity being at 100% with almost no read/write speeds
my hdd is a 1tb western digital black
i'll do a chkdsk scan just to make sure my hdd isn't dying on me already

the chkdsk scan came out with no errors

Wow I had that same problem too on my old laptop. Disk usage would just shoot to 100% and nothing would work. I don't think I ever fixed it tho

What kind of disk do you have? You should try to shut down the PC via the Shutdown menu option, not the power button.

Had this problem when I got Windows 10.

Stopped happening when I stopped using Windows 10.

This is due to the Windows Store updating stuff in the background. Uninstall any store apps you don't use to minimize this issue.

if i do that
the computer starts up itself right after it shut down even if i click "shut down"

people turn computers off?

... why?

people turn computers off?

... why?
so they can have a break??

so they can have a break??

but thats irrelevant to using a computer, you simply walk away from it when not needing to use it.
turn off monitor/sleep if you want to. but off?...

its no longer 1995, where computers eat electricity like mad and are loud when idle.

do you unplug the toaster when not in use?

have you tried turning it off and on again

I'd like to turn off my PC so that it actually lasts

Also heat
