Author Topic: Princeton banned the word "man" on their campus.  (Read 11420 times)

Well fine, if you want to be that way, I guess I'll just have to go out and find a source myself.

https://www.princeton.edu/hr/progserv/communications/inclusivelanguage.pdf

Make note of how they're banning all gendered language.
Okay honestly looking at the actual source this seems completely fair
is it really a big deal if they ask their HR staff (note: not students or teachers, you clickbaiting mongoloid) to use they and their instead of he, she, his, and her?
also this isn't even a ban, they're just guidelines

This will only get worse, cringe worthy levels of worse.
slippery slope fallacy yayyyy

im just going to cut out the middleman and refer to everyone as a dude

if they dont like being called a dude i just dont really care about their feelings
now you're my kind of dude,

this is completely reasonable

lord tony logic

Dunno, seems to make people in HR have to actively remember to use non-gendered language to get a simple point across. If i were to get simple strikes for using casual language to communicate a simple and innocent idea such as "manning" a front desk, then i'd probably quit the same day they enacted that. Give them an inch and they'll take it a mile. forget this ideology.
Very reasonable.
No its dumb

r u guys roleplaying as homestuck trolls?

r u guys roleplaying as homestuck trolls?

I never actually got past the first couple pages of Homestuck so I wouldn't know.

to a certain extent this really is pretty reasonable, like using "they/their" as generic words or avoiding pronouns altogether just to be sure, but when you start getting into just avoiding parts of words that seem gendered it's a really blurry line between reasonable and excessively careful, and i think that it's easy to try too hard to air on the safe side and make things weird

that being said, i would find it difficult to be upset about people wanting to use different words than me. the only problem is if you're suddenly being stigmatized for language that's always been acceptable in your experience, it's hard to retroactively internalize new connotations if you haven't personally experienced something that changes them

Oh I thought it was specifically on application forms and stuff
Yeah HR staff getting their words policed is nonsense.
