The US military is exponentially the most powerful military force in the world. If the US military was squatting in your country, supporting your government and building up its military, trained or not you wouldn't even think of rebelling.

Yeah, forget it, let's just start like five wars. That'll show them who's boss

cough vietnam

"If we don't get involved in Vietnam, then we'll have a weak military. Our military is the best, when we show the Vietcong the power of our forces and get South Vietnam on our side they won't even think about putting up a fight."

yea uh "nobody will fight against the US military" has been so wrong so many times throughout history

Take the US military out. You've got yourself a weak, untrained army. Any trained person could band together with others and take them.
yeah, i think he was kinda getting at the idea that the US probably shouldn't have played that game to begin with

Yeah, forget it, let's just start like five wars. That'll show them who's boss
oh yeah sure why not I mean we haven't had a good reason to start any war everrrrrrrr

You're comparing apples to oranges. In Vietnam the Vietcong had already been fighting the South Vietnamese before we arrived. It was also a bitch to get most of our equipment (helis, trucks, etc.) through the dense jungles of Laos and Cambodia. Had there been no trees we would have steamrolled them. Want to know why? At the time of the Gulf War, Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world, and we raped them. We lost 149 men, they lost about 22,000.

But let's attack this from a different angle and pull up the Golden Arches theory; that is, two democratic capitalist nations will never go to war with each other. In addition to building a better Iraqi military, Bush thought that stationing troops in post-war Iraq would also transition the country into one of these prosperous capitalist democracies, like it has for every other enemy we've defeated ever. And I know what you guys will say; the culture just wasn't suitable for it. If that's the case, then why not just let the Islamists do whatever they want to the gays and women in those countries with said culture? Pretty hypocritical.

the problem in vietnam and in the middle east is that we were/are fighting guerillas. we can't tell them apart from normal citizens. we couldn't have steamrolled the vietcong because we didn't know which people to roll over
our army specializes in fighting armies, not guerillas

we defeated iraq and put a capitalist democracy in place, but the region is just full of different groups that are all fighting each other for power. two democratic capitalist nations will never go to war with each other, but nationalist radicals will certainly go to war with a democratic capitalist nation

Every citizen is a guerrilla after what they did to Harambe
