Only one person mentioned JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
two people did actually
also make that 3 because i also recommend it, it's like intense action that doesnt take itself seriously and is, in a broader sense, wacky and outrageous. overall just a really good and fun time to watch.
note: i will only be recommending stuff i have watched
i dont know many Classical Anime Series
tm but some of the more Vintage
tm stuff like initial D, akira, and berserk 1997 are good. berserk '97 is cool but reading the manga is better overall. i would go into more detail about why it's incredible if this was a manga recommendation thread.
cowboy bebop, fullmetal alchemist, neon genesis evangelican, and dragonball you just gotta watch cause they're like staples of anime. they're popular for a reason and thats cause they're really solid.
one punch man and mob psycho 100 are similar thematically (cause they're made by the same guy) but they're both good and funny. sorta like why jojo's bizarre adventure is good, but more focused on humor.
nichijou is sorta hit and miss, because a lot of the humor is rooted in japanese culture stuff that most people (including me) don't really get so it just passes right through us, and we only get the slapstick. still funny though, might be worth a shot
also, when you start watching these solid, moderately popular anime, you'll probably start tuning in to seasonal series, which are usually interesting, but rarely more than an interesting gimmick that cant really hold up for more than 12 episodes. if it's gonna be a really good anime it will be an anticipated adaption of a well-received manga (warning: does not apply to berserk 2016). these kinds of seasonal anime are interesting and fun to watch, but again, don't really hold up against the more solid ones. avoid harem/slice of life/ecchi tags at all costs.
and ESPECIALLY avoid series like Sword Art Online, Oreimo, and Monster Musume like the plague.
also while im at it i don't have any particularly strong feelings about Love Live, im sure it's not horrible, but it urks me because it kinda reflects japan's child enthusiasm issue. idol groups are essentially formed to get the equivalent of, in america, 9th graders to perform songs for grown ass men, and more importantly, do meet and greets where they interact with these straight up child enthusiasts. you might be able to guess why the child enthusiasts would enjoy meet and greets. and because it's so profitable, this will continue in japan for a long time. i mean for god's sake japan's age of consent is 13. that's just forgeted up. Love Live isn't the only thing reflecting this child enthusiasm issue, and that's why theres so much garbage moe stuff cluttering anime. just a warning.
