One of the people that jumped before him left a gun in the fire. As it heated up, the gunpowder exploded, sending the bullet into the man just as he jumped.
while it is possible that one of the jumpers had a gun, the gunpowder wil not explode due to heat or flame alone.
maybe one of them dropped it to hold onto the net and it hit its hammer and that triggered it to fire? ;P

Perhaps a gun was dropped and it discharged on the fall shooting the man before he could escape safely?
