I guess conservatives as a whole are just anti-scientific bigots!
That's sort of the jist of being conservative, at least socially.

That's sort of the jist of being conservative, at least socially.

Go on

"I'm not too sure about global warming"
"Get in the loving cell"
Just like how some criminal charges were brought against researchers who falsely claimed ciggarettes were not addictive and destroyed lives, charges being brought against false scientists who claim climate change isn't real and damage the whole world is not the worst idea anyone has ever had--certainly not 'handicapped'. Freedom of speech is not the freedom to spread dangerous misinformation from a position of power. However, I would not support jailing psueudoscientists.

Also, I don't believe you. I can't find a single reliable source claiming he said this. The most I see is that he openly wondered if it might be appropriate when asked if it was, not reaching a conclusion.

Quote
“Was it appropriate to jail the guys from Enron?” Mr. Nye asked in a video interview with Climate Depot’s Marc Morano. “We’ll see what happens. Was it appropriate to jail people from the cigarette industry who insisted that this addictive product was not addictive, and so on?”

“In these cases, for me, as a taxpayer and voter, the introduction of this extreme doubt about climate change is affecting my quality of life as a public citizen,” Mr. Nye said. “So I can see where people are very concerned about this, and they’re pursuing criminal investigations as well as engaging in discussions like this.”

“The extreme doubt about climate change people — without going too far afield here — are leaving the world worse than they found it because they are keeping us from getting to work. They are holding us back,” Mr. Nye said in a post on Climate Depot, a project of the free market, nonprofit Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow.
And that's from a highly conservative source.

I guess conservatives as a whole are just anti-scientific bigots!
I mean... yea. Conservatism inherently opposes science. By definition, they believe in sticking to traditional beliefs rather than advancing based on new research.

What's that thing about the loud minority?

It's got nothing to do with individual beliefs--I'm talking about the beliefs of the collective. And the primary principle of Conservatism is sticking to old beliefs.

Also, nice job ignoring 90% of my post.

I never signed a form to join the conservative collective, if that's what you mean

You're doing a great job refuting the points that matter, bud.

the primary principle is literally in the goddamn name

the primary principle is literally in the goddamn name
Uh, what? Conservation as a whole is not the primary principle of the Conservatism. It's based on conserving traditional beliefs, not conserving resources (lol they love oil) or environmental security. Since you can't gather those specifics from the title alone, no, it's not literally in the goddamn title.

Maybe if they were called "Traditionalbeliefists" you've have a point...

that's not really how it works. if you claim to be conservative, then you're in the 'collective' of people who also consider themselves to be conservative.

my dude i'm pretty sure he was agreeing with you. generally the conserv- prefix involves regression/retaining

i was not implying that they want to conserve resources

i was not implying that they want to conserve resources
Uh? You didn't imply anything. You said that you could tell what the word term meant self-evidently, which I showed was not the case.

Yes, but retaining what? Not oil, not the environment. Beliefs. You can't tell that specific from the word alone.

uh, ok? i mean its just generally common knowledge that if that prefix is presented in the context of political beliefs, it's referring to said beliefs. not sure why you're splitting hairs here trying to disprove a small detail of someone who agreed with you.

mczealot is incorrect, i know the meaning of all words because i have a phd (pretty huge dictionary)
