Author Topic: Affirmative action is stupid  (Read 2899 times)

alright so to get things straight, my father is black, so on every single financial aid form or college application i'm allowed to put down 'African American' for my race. This means that colleges are forced to look at my application as a higher priority than white and asian people. They don't really base it at all on financial situation, despite the 'financial aid' part of it. If I put down 'White' as my race on the application, I have a lower chance of being accepted with my current scores. Normally I would consider this an easy win and put down black on my apps. However...

I have an asian friend who's family earns close to 60k a year, making his family lower class. Despite this, his college advisor says he has to work twice as hard as someone like me to actually get accepted. This same bs goes for my white friends.

Affirmative action is supposed to help minorities have a future and actually get a career despite all the socioeconomic pressure on their family. Instead it just gives us minorities an unfair advantage over poorer non-minority students. What's the point of making everyone's acceptance equal if one group has to lose? its just really stupid

welcome to living in texas, where getting better grades and test scores doesn't really matter when it comes to getting into the university of texas

Now you're seeing the light path, this stuff is the worst and only makes racial bias worse imo.

Reverse discrimination is still discrimination, no matter how you look at it. This is just racism disguised as 'minority aid'

60k isn't lower class lol
In fact, it's considerably higher than the average US household income.

Agreed with everything else though

Isn't there a scholarship for having brown eyes? Isn't there one for being hispanic?

I don't get it.

Scholarship just means someone is giving you money for school. So in theory there could be a scholarship for literally anything, it's just a matter of finding and winning it

i wonder if i could get the same bennies if i identified as black...

well at least you can take advantage of the system's blatant racism lol

This is the smartest thing ive heard path say ever.

True, but its borderline working/middle, and, considering he has a sibling and both his parents are working to make the combined 60k, its pretty low

Scholarships are pretty much free money. Companies have a huge sum of money that they have to get rid of so they make foundations and give it away to students. It's not a lot- usually 1-2000 dollars per scholarship, but its good to have. I bet my money that they have a neo national socialist scholarship foundation somewhere

listen, i'm not an irrational, greedy dude. I see that the system is mistreating black people and i object. I see the system mistreating whites and asians and i also object.

theres really no good that could ever come out of handicapping a whole race, as slavery and affirmative action are teaching us

hold your horses, is this even possible

Blame black people like you complaining about how colleges don't let in enough black people and other minorities.
