Author Topic: Port Forwarding:Possible on shared connection?  (Read 629 times)

I need to know if you can port forward on a shared internet connection.
My mom's laptop is the one with the router installed on it. (Which is where I select all the options for portforwarding.
I'm the one leeching on the internet.
Note:Was posted in sticky but no one ever answers questions there.

Better get a hardware router, you get them for almost no money (dunno, about 20$?), well,
this way the laptop doesn't have to be on the whole time so you can get in the internet.

A normal router is just like a little pc giving internet access to the network,
they also have port forwarding in a proper way.

Something that is harder on the windows os, (XP, Vista).
I remember trying it, and yes, I also got it to work, but it's just not worth it.

If it requires buying something then it's never going to happen.

Bump. Answer me darn it! Or I'll go panding insane!

Port forwarding is possible on one connection, but two computers can't share the same IP address (In this case, whatever IP you forwarded your ports to.). Only the one with the static IP can host, unless you switch them.

Get what I'm saying?
