I mean, it's the internet. Name-calling is just part of normal discourse.

It's not necessarily persuasive, but there's seriously no reason to complain about it. Especially if the name-calling is followed up with some sort of actual argument, because then the person writing it has made it perfectly clear what part of their response you should be paying attention to.
