Author Topic: SpaceX announces Mars Colonisation architecture  (Read 5454 times)

i'm a bit puzzled as to why we spend so much on trying to colonize new planets/moons. shouldn't we be focused on preserving our planet?
even if we did just focus on preservation and clean energy or whatever, we'd still have to deal with overpopulation. anti-breeding laws are inhumane as is force-sterilizing people. not to mention there's an infinite amount of every resource outside of our planet as well as more space where humans could be living. it's the future of our species and the only way we're not going to die out before the sun bursts

Space is the final frontier.

manifest destiny taken to the nth power

no, i meant why can't we stop loving up our planet? we wouldn't need to colonize somewhere else then.
earth has almost killed all the life living on it 5 times since its birth. no matter what we do, we'll have to leave eventually

This ought to be our future

scenario: elon musk is an alien who crash landed on earth and is using spacex, solarcity, powerwall, and all his other companies to get back to his home planet

can we send matt damon back to mars

one of my favorite channels "every Elon Musk video" just posted a one hour video on the full plan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFA6DLT1jBA

BTW, this is really worth the watch if you like the idea of colonizing Mars.

Elon Musk has a real plan and has already developed a bunch of tech to do this.
It probably won't be sustainable until just after our life spans but we'll live to see people walk on Mars and the settlement being built, for sure.

Id go if it didnt cost a house for a seat

Id go if it didnt cost a house for a seat
The point of that is people who really want to go could feasibly save all their money and really do it for ~$200k.
Unlike if it costed $10 billion per seat, your average person could never save that up .

Heinlein believed that colonization brought out the best in people, in works such as Farmer in the Sky (set on Ganymede).

Just in time after we forgeted up the planet with the nasty carbon.

A house
Well if you get a house on mars and we start to colonize the stuff out of it, count me in.
