The United Nations is an international forum to discuss issues rather than fighting over them. In this particular case:
"The U.S. requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on October 25. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Adlai Stevenson confronted Soviet Ambassador Valerian Zorin in an emergency meeting of the Security Council..."
Further, U.N. inspectors verified that the missiles were removed.
As for reparations, they were one of the direct causes of the rise of fascism in Europe. Not a good idea, really. But something should be done because there is clearly still a problem.

So what? Countries have prevented war many times by diplomatically dealing with an issue and have done it before the UN was created https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agadir_CrCIA. Even if the missiles stayed in Cuba the Soviet Union would have probably never used them anyhow.

yea uh, im pretty sure i'd learn why this is not nearly as bad as you are suggesting if i bothered to read the article.

but atm i feel like this would be 100% reasonable if we were paying the people who had been slaves or even their children who had grown up in bad conditions because of it. but paying their great great grandchildren? they are so far removed from what those people went through.
