Author Topic: Why is there an Addon limit?  (Read 3096 times)

Was there really a need to? And I know you don't want to go on a server with 400 addons...

But come on, us must have a 1.5 TB computer! (at least as I do)

Please, somebody explain why.

Besides not wanting to download and install hundreds of add-ons, or download them straight from the server, isn't there still a limit on datablocks? Like, it's much higher than v0002/RTB 1.x, but it's still a thing, right?

No one wants to sit around waiting for your 5,000 add-ons to download. And plus, we're talking about Torque here, which probably isn't the best at managing all of those add-ons.

I meant datablock limit, sorry.

Blockland, and the Torque Game Engine in general just can't handle datablocks past a certain point, it's too much data to hold and keep track of

This is a modified game engine from the early 2000s, pushing it past it's limits will only cause the engine to crash and burn

Datablock limit has absolutely nothing at all to do with hard drive space.

So your saying if you download an addon your hardrive space wont decrease?

it was actually a lot lower at one point, now tbh if you reach it now you REALLLY need to disable some things

That's not what he was saying though?

How do you manage to reach 8000 datablocks? The limit is there but it should be a non-issue.

pretty sure this has to do with practical networking concerns. but yeah it shouldn't be an issue anyway, odds are you'll never need all 8000 datablocks at once. if you do, then there's probably a more conservative way to accomplish what you're doing.

Datablocks are stored in ram, and transmitted over network.

You must be some how mysteriously mistaking datablocks for files. In which, there's no limit on how many files you have as long as you don't exceed your hard drive space.

I cant imagine hitting 8000 datablocks, or downloading all the files from a server with that many datablocks. How many and what add-ons do you have? I'm really curious what you're doing to warrant the need for an increased limit. Sounds really big, kindof exciting actually.

i always assumed it was a hard limit because nobody practically wants to download 8000 datablocks to join some dudes freebuild

This p much

I have a metric forgetton of music, prints, bricks, and vehicles, and I STILL haven't met the new 8000 limit

before it was a bit easy, but now it's near impossible, which is gud
