is it just me or has 2016 been pretty much the worst year ever for animated films? this, angry birds, the troll movie, storks, ect, are all gonna cash in big.
meanwhile masterpieces like Kubo and The Two Strings are losing money like crazy
its evidence of the growing trend of lazy storytelling and cheap pandering (to children, in this case) in the american animation industry, reinforced by the fact that disney/pixar's monopoly ensures that they are the only studios allowed to make unique and interesting movies.
same stuff that's happening in japan, where only reboots of classic animes are being taken seriously and the only other shows that become successful are special interest pandering horse stuff. it all stems from an inherent lack of respect for animation as an art form.
