Author Topic: Anyone use Windows 7 still?  (Read 5572 times)

So far Windows 10 has been a more polished and faster Windows 7 for me. No issues with compatibility either.

I still use it and intend on using it until it turns into windows xp where less and less is able to run

I cringe when I see anything running Windows 7 that isn't an enterprise system for a lab or something.

You have literally no reason to do this. Win7 is a perfectly fine OS.

Only compatibility issue I have had is ironically a game by microsoft, and the only problem is the text boxes

i use windows 10 on my main pc and 8.1 on my laptop because a) i don't have another w10 key, b) w10 was weirdly slow and 8.1 improved that

Ive got a few reasons I dont want to switch to 10.

-I dont like it's layout and Id rather not fish around for plugins/layouts to change it back to what I want.
-I never want Cortana on my machine. Just another Siri to silence.
-But mostly because 8 out 10 people I know had massive problems with upgrading from windows 7 or 8 to win10 more often or not resulting in computer restores and other headaches. 5 people I know had it fail to transfer files and they lost stuff. I can't deal with that in college.

i used to use it, but then installed win10 literally a minute before the free offer expired. in the future i plan to install win7 on another hdd so i can play my old CD games that no longer work on win10

Because either some update, hardware incompatibility, or some other unknown factor, caused W10 to destroy itself on me.

rather not run the risks of bricking my computer (knowing my luck) by upgrading my operating system.
sticking with windows 7 until it becomes as useless as windows xp

And so is Windows 10.  Granted you may not feel the same if Windows 10/its updates have caused crashes and worse, but you can only do so much even with a force like Microsoft with thousands of programmers for thousands of different hardware pieces, it's sorta inevitable but it isn't excusable.

On a broad level, Windows 10 gives you DX12 and a much more capable touch interface for a touch device, as well as general performance and battery life improvements.  Granted this isn't much to really warrant switching, but if you're gaming on Windows 7 still you're doing it wrong unless your GPU doesn't support DX12.

For me personally, I like Win10's UI way more than 8.1's.  I like its search, and how I can just smack the windows and start typing and get near instant results (granted 7 had this, but it was no where near as responsive).  On top of that, Windows 10 AU now also has Bash on Ubuntu on Windows giving Windows users a Bash shell to work in which was super convenient since it came out right as I started my class that uses command line.

This won't be long.  You can try sticking out for as long as their support for it will go but I guarantee it will be no where near as long as it was for XP.

microsoft plans the life cycles of their OS releases far in advance. windows 10 already has scheduled mainstream and extended support end dates

extended support always lasts five years (more or less) longer than mainstream support, xp didn't get any special treatment and 7 won't either
