Author Topic: Blockland - What's Changed, and My Thoughts  (Read 7993 times)

-Snip-
Some comparisons can be drawn between Star Wars and Blockland here, where the Dev started off with a good idea, but as time went on, people were unwilling to question his actions until one day he made a terrible decision, but people went along with it until it was too late. But one major problem I never see people point out was the Bait and Swith of the original topic. The images shown on that thread do NOT represent the final release at all! And the only way we got anywhere close was with modifications to the shader files.

I have to fully agree with this thread. From my perspective, the game's development is heavily based around what the creators want to see in the game rather than what the clientele whats.
I feel that if the developers were to listen to the suggestions made by the community, and implemented what people would like to see then the user experience for this game would improve.
Reminder that we voted for this. They gave the option and of course, because maps were already dead and a large majority of the players played on slate, maps lost the vote.
And even still, maps:shaders votes was still a smaller gap than not-slate:slate population. Probably some people who only ever playing on slate voting in favor of maps because 'muh nostalgia'.

When was this vote held, and how was it done?

Well alright, memory is stuff and there wasn't actually a vote.

But there was much more support for dumping maps out of the game.

More like the majority were alright with terrain being removed because it ushered forth the l33t graphics era and were quite content with having the loud minority dig up their roots and leave because the creator didn't listen to their autistic whining.

Long story short if you don't find the game fun anymore, stop playing it and don't ruin it for everyone else.

most of us found this game when we were 8 - 12, and were like: "holy stuff this is cool".
i dont think somebody 8 - 10 would be saying holy stuff

Welcome to the Internet.

think about it this way--
if you put a good chunk of your life making a game and the community turned out like this would you want to keep working on this, knowing that there's a good chance people would just ask for more

Then why not sell the rights to someone else? If you're not going to work on it, letting it sit won't get you more money once it's lost all popularity. It's clear he enforced the BL key requirement on the forums so people would buy keys there because otherwise the game would not sell.

letting it sit has gotten him loads of money, it's not like people don't buy the game because it's not being developed

it's essentially a finished game anyways, why would he give away his moneymaker

imo terrain didn't fit blockland at all much, but the static maps such as kitchen fit it perfectly, because legos

maps were a whole other look at the game, you could do some really great things with it but most of the time it just made a standard freebuild look spammy and boring, even if it's not

I joined this game when I was 12, that was 6 years ago, im now in college and have a job and other hobbies, Blockland falls by the wayside because I often don't have time to play games at all. When I do play games though, I enjoy Counter Strike, Dayz, Beamng.drive, and TF2 as well as Blockland, so I rarely play Blockland anymore. I'd love for the game to return to its hayday (with Rtb and more dedicated mod makers and server hosts) on top of that more people used to find the time to play but time has moved forward for them just like me, 6 years go by, people come and people go, but with a game as niche as Blockland its hard to get new people in, so I assume the game will fade into ambiguity in another two years or so, I'd love to be proven wrong though because I love Blockland and nothing can replace it (or its forum lol)

I used to be one of map defenders until I realized the reasons why the maps had to go.
