Author Topic: why is steven universe so well recieved  (Read 4802 times)

do you understand it
because you're pretty much doing what everyone is predicting to damage control

eon you do realize the he knows exactly what he's doing here, right? coming at him repeatedly and doing this "you've been got" thing is what gives him a platform to keep responding

because people watched and enjoyed it

even though I don't personally find it interesting I'm aware that it has a pretty good following (for more reasons than a "sjw agenda"- the art and writing and such is top notch)

believe it or not it is entirely possible for other people to like things you don't like

i know that's why i made this thread

overall, it's just a well-written show. good character development, good world building, good vibes. i think people understandably get skeptical about popular media addressing feminist/lgbt topics, since it's incredibly common for writers to lazily shove those themes in there for brownie points, and it's annoying and silly and it doesn't actually tend to offer the representation that they're hoping to get credited for. the times that su touches on those areas, it doesn't often feel as though they're doing it to prove a point; it's not given any fireworks or anything, it's just there and it feels natural. i definitely can't remember any time when it was important that someone was female or that there was a relationship between two femme-presenting characters, it's just how things are and it it's never a big deal to any conflicts or vital to anyone's character.

all that being said, obviously the show has its problems. like, i don't always particularly like steven as he's written. more recent episodes have humanized him a lot more, but he was always kinda too perfect. sometimes the voice acting and dialogue could be better, sometimes they have some pacing problems, and they go on hiatus every forgetin five episodes or smth, but overall i enjoy the show, and i think it's been a big influence on me and lots of other people.

also i suspect the next episode airing "before thanksgiving" will be pretty gay but i have no proof of this

it's a good show with a story which is being told through the episodes, which is really popular in animated shows.
also it gains attention because it's implied that some of the characters are gay.

it has been shoved in my face numerous times but i will try and watch a few more episodes
well I was going to do a re-watch soon so when that occurs I'll get back to you on that

hurr anything with girls is sjw propaganda

representation. people like it because it's progressive or something due to featuring Girls and Gays and Flat Chests and Stevens Fat loving Jiggly Belly holy stuff why did they have to animate the jiggle????

it's well animated and it looks good but some of it is... odd. why are genderless space aliens all very obviously female?? why do they have fat forgetin lips that look like Noill back doors?? what compelled steven's dad to forget a Rock?? how did a rock get forgeted and give birth to a half-rock-baby?? these are the questions that must be asked of modern entertainment

i watched a few episodes while on vacation and enjoyed them, but the community surrounding the show turned me away from it tbh. it has its moments and some of the artwork that goes into it is beautiful buuuut

from an artist kind of stand point the backgrounds are loving EBIC but the characters are not as good as My Own Oringal characters

i only like the show because they feminized a bunch of rocks and ores and stuff

also i can imagine all the minecraft cigarettes stimultaniously jizzing in their pants when they heard that the blue girl's name is "lapis lazuli"

there are a lot of people here that dislike the show so it is not universal

i have not watched it as of yet

I haven't watched it as of late, but the real selling point of the show was the music. After I heard the "stronger than you" song, I couldn't get the overall rhythm out of my head. The show also has some cool fight scenes and such, and the environments are capable of being beautifully drawn. Sometimes, though, some characters' personalities are forced (especially in the early episodes w/ pearl), but all in all, it's relieving to know these superhuman rocks also have their own weaknesses. Also Pearl's lance/spear looks prt dope.
